Dates: Dates for Fri - Sun are below, which can be altered slightly (e.g. Sat - Mon) if needed.
Looking at out of term time, not clashing with club trips

Looks like the 15th to the 19th March are the best dates.

10th–12th January

  • Fiona (I will be in the Lake District on 8th Jan so I would be interested in spending the 9th Jan either in the Lake District or in Scotland, rather than travelling south and then north again)

15th–19th March (final dates?)

Transport - could anyone bring a car (would be very useful)?
Where are you coming from, how are you getting there?

  • Vicky: I am coming from Cambridge - hopefully a lift?
  • Fiona: same as Vicky
  • Tom L: If first weekend, straight from Cambridge then back to London. Second would be to and from London.
  • Philip: Probably coming to/from Cambridge. Hopefully getting a lift, but haven’t yet thought through transport. May be able to hire a car.
  • Andrew: I'm reasonably keen on going to Scotland at some point over the winter. If this would be of any help, and I'm frankly not sure you need it, I would be entirely happy renting a car and driving there, though not taking part in the course, instead doing my own thing while you guys do the course. Post-skills course, this would also give the option of extending the trip and doing some walking elsewhere.

Accommodation:

  • ‘Wild’ camping on the Rothiemurchus estate at Loch an Eilein, £5pppn (http://www.scottishcampingguide.com/link.php?n=630&c=25) — technically only allowed to stay for 1 night, but may be able to bend the rules - I'm happy to camp (FP)
  • Aviemore SYHA, £17pppn (http://www.syha.org.uk/hostels-in-scotland/highlands/aviemore.aspx)
  • Camping opposite the SYHA — can’t find any information about this online
  • Aviemore bunkhouse, £16.66pppn (6-bed dorm) (http://www.aviemore-bunkhouse.com/)

From my brief experience (Philip), the other major campsites in Aviemore (Glenmore and Rothiemurchus) are not great.
