Transport for Snowdonia Easter Trip 2011

This page is intended to help coordinate lift sharing to and from the club's [l|/events/2011/mar/snowdon-trip-2011|Easter Vacation Trip] to the Pinnacle Hut in Snowdonia from 25th - 30th March. It is editable by anyone with an account on the club website - please go [l|/user/register|here] to register if you don't have an account.

Public transport

  • The nearest train station is Betws-y-Coed
    • Alternatively, tickets to the stations Porthmadog and Bangor are often cheaper, and I think both are still accessible by bus. [DM]
    • I managed to obtain tickets return from Darlington for £41 or so. [AW]
    • Porthmadog is currently working out the cheapest, but even with a young person's railcard it's still going to cost £57.25 if I book it now. Just hope the cars work out. [l|/users/mark-jackson|Mark Jackson] - 01:50 11 March 2011
  • There is a [l|http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/upload/public/attachments/1062/winter201011sherpaleafletjbbv31.pdf|bus service] which runs between Betws-y-Coed and Pen-y-Pass which is around a 2km walk from the hut
  • Return bus from london to Caernarfon is £43.50 with national express if you want to do it that way (takes 9 hours though). [DM]

Cars

  • Mohammad - Travelling from Cambridge Friday 25 March, returning to Cambridge Sunday 27 March, Can take 3 passengers. (Now full [l|/users/matthew-graham|Matthew Graham] - 18:10 15 March 2011)

  • David Pettit - Travelling from near Derby, very early (c.4:30am) on Saturday 26th. Returning on Sunday 27th. Bringing Oliver and Gillian.

  • Helen- Travelling up on Sunday (27th) afternoon from Cambridge area. Returning on wednesday (30th)to Cambridge. Ford fiesta so can fit three max really, four if you want an uncomfortable journey! (Now full [l|/users/matthew-graham|Matthew Graham] - 18:10 15 March 2011)

    • I suspect this has helped A LOT for anyone wanting to travel back on 30th! [AW]
    • Might you be able to give a lift back to Mark, Dave M, (possibly Jessie) and me then on the 30th? This would be super super super helpful :-) - If there still aren't enough spaces in one direction I can almost completely definitely get a car, though it would involve a sort-of bus transfer for everybody in Oxford on both the 25th and 30th...-Kirsty
    • Yeahh Helen saves the day !! Kirsty - I guess whether you are needed will depend on what Paul decides. But "almost completely definitely" sounds pretty good :-) [l|/users/mark-jackson|Mark Jackson] - 22:35 11 March 2011

Lift requests

  • Becky and Joe need a very kind driver willing to drop them at Betws-y-Coed train station by 0656 on Tues 29th so that they can get a train to Llandudno junction for our connection from there. Sorry it is so early!!
  • I can probably give you guys a lift to the station on Tuesday (Helen)
    • If you're going anyway, could I hop in too? Would there be room for 3... If the answer is yes, I'll buy a train ticket. (Chris)

I've removed the lift requests which I think are now dealt with to make the page less cluttered. If you want to check them they'll still be available via previous revision tab at top of page [l|/users/matthew-graham|Matthew Graham] - 18:10 15 March 2011

Trains

  • Andrew, Becky, Joe, Chris, Jeremy and now Simon B are arriving at Betws-y-Coed station at 17.01 and may use a bus to get to Pen-y-Pass (just before the turnoff) and will then walk the last 2km. (We will be arriving first so will have the key.) The alternative option is to get a taxi between us. We can decide almost on the day. We will need a people carrier if we taxi it. If anyone else is using trains and is not on the wiki, please aim to arrive at 17.01 too and then we can arrange transport collectively. [AW]
    • Taxi definitely sounds like a good idea... [SJB]
    • I am guessing that any of you travelling from Cambridge are going to be getting on the 1324 train from Birmingham New Street to Llandudno Junction. In which case I'll be hunting you down! [SJB]
