Pre-CUHWC Scotland Trip


This Wiki page is to organise the (unofficial) pre-CUHWC trip from 3rd to 9th September 2011. Anyone else wishing to join us, for all or part of the trip, should email Andrew (agw41).

Plan

(Weather will alter plans, especially if it is bad when we intend to do the backpack.)

Saturday 3rd

13.00 – Andrew leaves Darlington by train
20.08 – Andrew arrives Crianlarich Station
20.17 - Andrew leaves Crianlarich
21.19 - Andrew arrives Corrour

Sunday 4th

Morning & Afternoon – Andrew walks somewhere around Corrour alone. Probably across the Easains (23km, 1200m) or Chno Dearg & Stob Coire Sgriodain (21km, 1000m) to Tulloch.
18.08 - Catch train back to Corrour from Tulloch
18.25 - Arive Corrour

Monday 5th

08.58 – Phil arrives by train
09.30 – Andrew and Phil head out to do Beinn na Lap (7km, 550m)
11.57 – Mark arrives by train; Andrew and Phil to aim to meet him soon afterwards
Afternoon – walk up Leum Uilleim, including Mark too(?) (14km, 600m)

Tuesday 6th

Early morning – leave excess stuff not required for backpack somewhere at campsite; we will be leaving tents behind anyway, so can leave stuff in them
Morning/Afternoon – Backpack from Corrour over Beinn Eibhinn, Aonach Beag, Geal-charn and Carn Dearg (including all of their Tops) to Culra Bothy (25km, 1600m)

Wednesday 7th

Morning/Afternoon – Walk from Culra Bothy over Beinn Bheoil and Ben Alder back to Corrour (25km, 1100m)

Thursday 8th

08.30 – Andrew, Phil and Mark catch train from Corrour to Rannoch
08.40 – Train arrives at Rannoch. Phil heads south to return home.
08.45 – Andrew and Mark walk back to Corrour from Rannoch over Meall na Meoig, Sgor Gaibhre, inc. its Top, and Carn Dearg (25km, 1400m)

Friday 9th

Andrew and Mark head to Fort William to join main CUHWC trip. May walk in Corrour first and then head there or head there directly. Depends upon weather.
Trains options as follows:

  • Corrour 11.57 – Fort William 12.43
  • Corrour 15.21 – Fort William 16.09
  • Corrour 21.19 – Fort William 22.05

(NB: Also possible to head there Thursday evening. Same train times on the Thursday.)

Accommodation

There are two YHAs at Corrour:

Or we can wild camp somewhere around Loch Ossian. Depends upon weather.

Kit

Andrew will bring:

  • The 'obvious' stuff
  • 2-person tent
  • Small stove and pan
  • SMC Munros Book
  • SMC Corbetts and other Scottish hills Book
  • Butterfield's Book
  • Laminated route cards

Phil will bring:

  • Bivvi bag/tarpaulin for storing kit? Don't think it will be necessary [AW]
  • If necessary, 3-man Vango tent? Either for kit storage or camping. It's not the world's best, though; if Mark has a better one go for that.
  • Food for 2-day walk: any requests, please fill in below:
    • instant porridge oats

Can Mark or Phil bring something? Option to eat in Corrour Station House one evening.

Mark and Andrew get something in Fort William (either pub meal or something bought from Morrison's), including anyone else that may have turned up by then.
