Seathwaite 2014 Transport

Since people tend to be travelling to our Vacation Trips from numerous destinations across the country, the Club does not organise transport for these trips. This is a wiki page to help coordinate lift sharing for the trip, which begins on Friday 3rd January and concludes on Wednesday 8th January. Members are welcome to come for as many or as few nights as they wish.

Friday to Wednesday Derby to Seathwaite and back

Planning on going via the M6, so if anyone needs a lift from Stoke, Manchester, Lancaster, Penrith etc, put your name down. - Now full for the way there

  • Alex Elliott. Both ways from/ to Manchester please? [Chris] - Whereabouts in Manchester?-it's easiest if I could pick you up from somewhere near the edge but I could go into the centre if called for
  • Sophie Draper - Way there only from near Lancaster
  • Andy Howell

[Chris] - Awesome, that'd be great, I've just emailed you about times. :)

Hopeful people

  • Andrew may be interested in a lift back to Cambridge if someone were passing Scotch Corner (i.e. travelling across the A66) sometime after Sunday 5th January and heading back to Cambridge; will see what transport needs there are for people attending the trip (as I won't be) before taking any spaces, however.

Public Transport

It is relatively easy to reach Seathwaite by public transport — the nearest train station is Penrith which is on the West Coast mainline. From Penrith you can take the Stagecoach X5 bus service to Keswick and from there the Borrowdale Rambler (service 78) to Seatoller which is only a short walk from Seathwaite.

Feel free to list your travel plans here to determine if other people are travelling for the same portions of journeys as you.

Bus timetables can be found here:

People Using Public Transport

  • Stuart: Hexham - Penrith, Sat 4th in, Wed 8th out.

  • Matt: IN: Train from Hereford to Penrith on Friday, arriving around midday so plan to catch a bus to Keswick for about 1, then do a short walk from Keswick (or sheltering in a cafe if the weather's especially grim) before catching the bus on to Seatoller at either 4:30 or 5:30. Anyone likely to be in/around Keswick at that time please make yourselves known (07787231761)! OUT: Leaving on train from Penrith to Liverpool on Sunday at 2022.
